Meditation, How Can You Start and Do It?

Guide For Meditation - Meditation is believed to be a great practice to help calm the mind. Many people try meditation, knowing the many health benefits behind it. However, not a few are unsure or hesitant to start, or have tried it but feel that they have not benefited from the activity. Indeed, it is difficult to practice meditation as a discipline.

If physical fitness and nutrition are measurable, meditation and mindfulness are such personal experiences that it is difficult to know which is the "right" way to do it.

Meditation should not be viewed as a skill to be mastered. Many people try hard to succeed when meditating because they want an immediate result and want to know what to do next.

Meditation should be a fun activity, not a task to be performed.

If you want to try meditation but are confused about getting started, the following tips may help you understand it better.

1. Meditation mindset

One of the wrong views that many people take during meditation is that they try not to think about anything and try not to focus on something for the sake of gaining emptiness. However, it is the opposite of what you should be doing. Let yourself be aware and focused. Sharpen your mind.

Meditation also doesn't mean just focusing on one thing. Likewise, if you focus too much on trying to empty your mind and meditate, you won't be able to do meditation effectively, because your mind is busy talking empty .. empty .. The essence of meditation is aware, including being aware of what we think.

So it doesn't matter if there are thoughts that cross while meditating. As thoughts drift, try to be aware that they are drifting, and try not to get lost in those thoughts. Try to focus on something less important but consistent. Is it a mantra or a breath sound.

When you find your mind drifting, laugh at yourself for finding your mind wandering. But be aware, then bring yourself back to the point of contemplation.

2. Where to meditate?

We can meditate anywhere we feel comfortable. Whether intentionally or not, many people use a daily commute to meditate. However, since coronavirus lets us work in the kitchen, many people forget their meditation practice. This habit will eventually vanish.

Consistency to meditate when travelling is a perfect thing. But don't depend on just one place. In general, people would suggest finding a quiet place to meditate. This is not wrong because a quiet place will make it easier for us to relax, focus, and give up. However, don't force yourself to meditate at certain times and places.

Discipline and routine are essential, but they are not everything. If you can, find a consistent and quiet space, but don't just stick to a place like that. You don't have to go to the Himalayas' foothills to meditate like a monk.

3. Position yourself comfortably

Wherever you meditate, we recommend sitting on a chair or bench with a pillow, keeping your legs flat and your spine straight. Activate your core muscles. You've probably seen a professional pianist sit up straight but still look comfortable. Well, that's what you need to do. Finally, be aware of where you are right now. Feel what you experience during meditation without needing to digest it.

Just feel it. Also, don't meditate with any expectations, including thinking about how relaxed you will be after meditation. Hope will disperse our awareness because we will overthink the future and forget to feel what is happening now. And, like any activity, the more often you do it, the better you will be at it. Good luck.
